Beckoning is an exploration of the complex relationship between flight and masculinity.

For many flying symbolises the ultimate form of escapism from life on planet Earth and the stresses of the everyday. By examining the vast library of historical books on flight I examine how photographs have been instrumental in militarising and masculating the sensation of flight and fetishisation of aeroplanes. Taking reference from these images I embed myself within many different communities and spaces related to flying in an effort to understand "why men are so attracted to flight".
